All The Cool Kids Are Gonna Be There.

sIMG_1049

Now that kids are out of school…and it is officially SUMMA TIIIIIMMMMEEE…we (the mamas and the papas) are needing to get out of the house.  But finding a sitter seems almost as impossible as finding somewhere that is both kid-friendly and not obnoxiously annoying.  For us – it a no brainer.  Our friends over at UTC have this summer-time thing down!  From jungle gyms to the happiest of hours, I’ll take you through a quick guide to all the UTC has to offer.

Kid Specific Activities:

Immi and I were able to hit up this fun Earth Day event earlier this year.  First we learned about how plants grow – dirt, water, sun…then we got to decorate our own pots AND planted up some sunflowers!

There is something going on pretty every couple of weeks.

EATING OUT

Eating out with kids is almost ALWAYS an adventure…energy, tantrums, spilled foods, blunt nosey kids.  Thankfully there are a TON of kid friendly places to get your NOSH-on…and maybe partake in an adult beverage or two…you know, to calm the nerves and all.

My personal favorite place to kick it after a long week is at Eureka‘s Happy Hour.  Not only are the fries B.O.M.B,  and the is a LOOOOONG list of brews and wine, they also offer a free kiddy-app that they bring to your table right away….it’s like they JUST KNOW! (i may or may not take down my own order of sweet potato fries….shhhhh).Even the Mister will love taking the babes out here.

AND MORE!

Now WHAT?!? You’re belly is full, the kids have a little sugar in their systems…obviously it’s not time to go sit in a car…UTC has a great list of shops to “peek” in…but even better, the kid playground and safari train! It’s a great place to let kids run around…and to just hang out.  I don know how many times we go for a “quick” round at the playground…and end up staying out past bed-time getting caught up chatting it up with another couple.sIMG_0217

The Intern… co-sleeping.

Untitled-1

Have you seen the movie the intern?  it’s really great – funny, sweet, entertaining… i can’t say enough good about it.  however, the particular bond i now have with this movie, isn’t because of how good the actual movie…but this scene.  This scene is shortly after Anne Hathaways character puts her daughter to bed, and then she crawls into bed.  This…right here.  THIS scene, is where my little tiny co-sleeping daughter asks “mama, where is their baby”.  it hadn’t really dawned on me before that she doesn’t realize that a lot of kids sleep in there own room.  sleeping with us is all she knows…well, kind of.

yes, there are numerous studies that explain the benefits of co-sleeping (and there are also numerous that debate said benefits)…but regardless, that is not how or why we have ended up here.

immi started out in her own little co-sleeper that was attached to the side of the bed.  and she was there for several months.  at this point i can’t remember when she grew out of it…but shortly after that, we moved her to her crib…in which i’d wake up once or twice a night to nurse, and then bright and early in the AM….this was fine, until I ruptured my achilles AND my husband was traveling for weeks at a time.  before he left, we moved the crib into our room, so all i had to do was stand up (on one leg) pick her up, and lay with her in bed to nurse… well, do you know how easy it is to nurse a baby to sleep and then just catch some Zzzz’s while your at it. yep… it was amazing!  i was getting decent sleep!  it became habit…she’d get put to bed in her crib, and then when she’d wake up between 4 or 5am…i’d bring her into bed with me and get just an hour or two more sleep.  well, fast forward to numerous viruses, fevers, nightmares, etc…and endless nursing…she ended up in bed with us more so than not… we went through phases of being in the crib, phases on being in the bed, round and round…then came the solidifier.  hubs going overseas for 3 months.  to help me sleep, and to help immi feel more secure, i just brought her into bed with me.  it really just came down to both of us getting more sleep.  there are other benefits that come with her sleeping with us.  let’s be real…i’m a working a mom… a lot of nights, i don’t get home until 7-7:30…that means a quick dinner and bed time.  co-sleeping allows us to squeeze in any extra morsel of time we can to be together.  we’re together when she falls asleep…and i’m right there to see her sweet groggy smile first thing in the morning –  and now here we are. co-sleeping.  so, i guess the moral of the story is that no matter your parenting philosophy, we all do what we gotta do.

the SPIN!

IMG_9819

when it comes to setting aside “mama time” i am awful.  its really hard for me to rationalize getting my nails done – or showering for that fact…when i only get an hour or so at night (during the week) with my sweet baby girl….SO when Vanity Planet offered to send me the Spin for Perfect Skin – in the color of my choice (strawberry pink, of course) to review, i was SO DOWN!Screen Shot 2016-02-19 at 8.19.21 PM

I have to be honest…when it arrived, i was a little
intimidated…it comes with everything you could ever need for amaze skin!  [I mean, my 6th grade sister did my hair and makeup for my prom…THATS how beauty-related savvy i am].  i quickly flipped through the little booklet and learned what each of the brush is meant for.   i LOVE LOVE LOVE the body brush (the big one)…and the exfoliation brush.   I haven’t used the pumice stone yet.  i start to giggle every time it gets close to my foot.

anyways…the moral of the story is that this little pink spinner is the PERFECT addition to my very simple daily routine.

lavender shampoo bar from lush

rose hydrating facial spray from herbivore

perfect coral blush from Honest Co

spin for perfect skin– DEAL ALERT!! head over to vpwow.com/jeadorespin for 70% off!  Use coupon code jeadorespin!

….as you can see – i’m not the only one who got a kick out of the spinning brush.

give and take – relationships

IMG_9898 LONG

let’s start off by saying that My Little Pony has been updated a wee bit since my day…i didn’t even recognize what it was when Imbot brought one home.  But it’s the same…theme song and all.  It really doesn’t surprise me that she is obsessed…she already love unicorns and ponies…so totally makes sense…ANYWAY…since it’s Valentine’s day weekend, i wanted to talk about RELATIONSHIPS…with our babes.  They spend so much time doing what we want/need them to do…run errands, wear this, say that, go there…and yes, it’s teaching them real life, etc etc, but it made me start to think about my other relationships…and there is no way a bond would grow – at least not a good one – if i was always doing what they were interested in or vice versa.   so i wanted to test and see what would happen if i became interested in something i knew that she really-really loved.  so one day i bought the pinky pie hoodie (she has rainbow dash) and surprised her.  SHE DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING. She just looked at me and then ran to me and gave me the biggest hug.  we ran around in circles (ahem – flew around in circles) for hours and acted as silly as can be… i read an article this morning about how as parents there are so many “last times” that will happen without us even knowing. she won’t want to play with me forever.  so for this short time in life – i am pinky pie.
